Professional Biography:
An attorney since 1984, Mr. Miller practiced law at HSBC North American Holding, Inc. ("HNAH") (1984 - 2011), where he was Deputy General Counsel - Head of Litigation, Human Resources Legal Support and Senior Vice President (2008-2011); Associate General Counsel and Senior Vice President (2002-2008); Associate General Counsel and Administrative Vice President (1995-2002); and Staff Counsel and Administrative Vice President (1984-1995). He was twice elected by his peers for "Who's Who in The Law," published by The Buffalo Law Journal and Business First, was former President and former Director for Niagara Frontier Corporate Counsel Association, Inc. and former Litigation Subcommittee member of the NYC Clearinghouse.
During his tenure at HNAH, Mr. Miller directed and provided defense strategies for 2,200+ cases, including cases in both federal and state courts for complex class-action suits, patent litigation, copyright, trademark, personal injury, breach of contract, lender liability, fraud, embezzlement, malpractice, wrongful death, wrongful repossesion, false arrest, libel, slander, UCC, Reg. Z, Re. B, Reg. CC, wire transfer, letters of credit, employment (including FLSA, OFCCP, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, and state human rights claims) and securities litigation and employment claims.
Mr. Miller also managed teams in litigation and human resources law and counsel for North American operations of HSBC. He developed, supported and led a team consisting of 12 lawyers, 9 paralegals, US administrative support and 6 professionals in Manila, Philippines. He managed the annual budget, established and managed team goals and was the key strategist in setting reserve limit and defensive strategies for pending cases and projects. As a part of the legal support he provided the various teams, he made many presentations on various topics including human resources law.
